The Pea Coat is a classic Double Breasted jacket which is designed to fill the void between style and utility. It has naval origins and was originally designed as a part of a mariner’s uniform. Distinguished, suave and dapper! The pea coat fashion has made a comeback with it being voted as one of the must have winter jackets in the wardrobe of the stylish and fashion forward gentleman.
There are 3 types of Pea coats. They are:
- The Vintage Pea Coat: These are the older versions of the Pea Coats designed originally for the militia. If you are a history buff and want something closer to the original design you can scout some old army stores or browse through online portals for a Vintage Pea coat. It is however, something I would not advice, least of all for a novice. Vintage coats are hard to authenticate and someone could easily take you for a ride. Vintage pea coats may need heavy repairs and they lack the convenience that modern designs offer.
- The Tailored Pea Coat: I think this is self-explanatory. The Pea Coat is tailored and made to measure.
- The Authentic Pea Coat: These are the kinds of pea coats that are fashioned from wool and meet government specifications. It has a very sound design. It is built to be wind resistant. The design allows for greater movement. The buttons are placed to provide a nice, snug fit.
